Finding the Most Effective Turmeric
At USA Consumer Report we have recently been getting a huge number of requests for us to review the newest supplement craze to sweep the nation, Turmeric Curcumin, which many nutritionists, doctors, and scientists have actually called “life-changing.” The buzz all began when a famous Daytime TV Doctor started praising Turmeric Curcumin, a plant which grows in Southeast Asia, for being a pure and natural way to not only improve mood and manage depression, but as a natural side effect free anti-inflammatory, pain reducer, anti-oxidant and detoxifier. With claims like that we felt it was time for us to investigate.
Our initial survey found an overwhelming amount of positive reviews from everyday people using Turmeric Curcumin supplements, users consistently were reporting:
- dramatic relief from the painful swelling of inflammation
- reduction and, in many cases, reversal of the signs of premature aging
- massive positive spikes in mood and energy levels
- immediate and long-lasting relief from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA)
With absolutely zero of the side effects that you would have from over-the-counter medications.
The only problem was that there were so many turmeric supplements on the market! As always, supplement companies had gotten wind of the growing evidence behind turmeric and had flooded the market with countless new products.
That’s when we at USA Consumer Report decided that it was time to sort through the countless turmeric brands and find the ones that worked.

Our Research Approach
First, we ran a complete analysis on each product ourselves to make sure that they contained the right ingredients at the effective dosage. This step alone eliminated nearly half of the turmeric brands we tested; it turned out that many companies either included ineffective, low doses of turmeric or simply lied about the amount of turmeric in their product.
Then, we surveyed thousands of people who had actually used these products – so we could understand the full experience users had with these brands. Lastly, we took a close look at online marketplaces like Amazon and Ebay to see what actual customers were saying about each specific brand, carefully noting everything from how companies treated their customers to how long it took users to see real results.
We then combined all these factors so we could give complete and comprehensive reviews on the best Turmeric Curcumin supplement products available today.
Key Review Factors
Potency: For a Turmeric Curcumin supplement to be effective, it has to have at least 1,000 mg of Turmeric, containing 95% curcumin plus 5 mg of patented Bioperine® (Piperine Extract) for increased absorption.

BEWARE OF LOW GRADE TURMERIC Many companies try and cut corners by using cheap synthetic turmeric curcumin to fill their capsules. A Turmeric brand must have a daily dosage of 1000 mg. with 95% standardized curcumin and contain Biperine® to aid in absorption.
Price: We combed through thousands of reviews from online marketplaces to determine which had the most top rated reviews so we could assess which products really work. You want a company with an established reputation. If they don’t have positive reviews, avoid buying from them.
Customer Service: The quality of a company’s customer service can mean the difference between a seamless, pleasant buying experience and an absolute nightmare. You don’t want to get stuck with a company that doesn’t treat their customers with respect. Unless you’re one of the lucky few who always has things go their way, stick to companies with a solid reputation of quality customer service.
Guarantee: It is important to find a company who has a “no hassle” money-back guarantee. You don’t want to be wasting your time arguing with a company that won’t let you return a product that is not working for you. If a company won’t stand behind their product with a 90-Day Money Back Guarantee, take that as a red flag.

Average Review:
1MD Turmeric Curcumin is an excellent supplement chock-full of all the right stuff, and backed by 1MD’s in-house medical team. This supplement contains 1000 mg Turmeric Curcumin, 5 mg bioperine, and a veggie capsule. 1MD Turmeric Curcumin has BioPerine, which helps with absorption and bioavailability, and uses a vegetarian capsule. It’s not exactly “easy” to process returns with 1MD, and they may take up to 21 days to get the job done, which we think is a little too long.

Paragon Turmeric Curcumin came in 3rd place. What we like about this product is that just like BlueBiology Turmeric it does contain 100% pure Turmeric Curcumin, however, the capsules are very large and they may be difficult to swallow for some people. Paragon has been in business for a long time and they are a reputable company. They also have good customer service, with mostly positive reviews.

Stop Aging Now Curcumin2K came in fourth. Stop aging is also a reputable company, however, their turmeric has some additional ingredients. We were unable to confirm the effectiveness of their product due to the lack of honest reviews and testimonials. We also highly recommend buying turmeric supplements from companies that offer at least a 90-day return.

Curcu-Gel Ultra came in 5th place. What we like about this product is that just like BlueBiology Turmeric Curcumin it does contain 100% pure Turmeric Curcumin, however it only contains 650mg of turmeric per serving. It is less than the recommended dosage by studies done on Turmeric. Health Thru Nutrition has been in business for a long time and they are a reputable company. They also have good
customer service, with some positive reviews.

P.S. Even though BlueBiology is the best Turmeric Curcumin we have found, we would still love to hear about other Turmeric Supplements that you have tried! If you have had a great experience with a Turmeric supplement that we did not cover in this article, let us know!

I know of a person who takes turmeric curcumin without the BioPerine (pepper) in it. She said she just takes 3 peppercorns with it and it works for her. So, I’m thinking you don’t have to buy the Turmeric with BioPerine if you take the peppercorns with it. I am actually going to start taking it today and see if it works.
Hi Donna, that’s great that it has been effective for her. Bioperine is black pepper extract, so taking turmeric with peppercorns likely has the same (or close to) effect.
I am a retired RN of 26 yrs and was extremely skeptical of turmeric claims. I have had steroid injections and physical therapy for painful inflammation of my left knee. Did research and took turmeric/curcumin with bioprene. AMAZING results.. noticed a difference within 1 week of usage. Am able to kneel for the first time in 6 months. To all skeptics… Try it!
Instead of buying prepared capsuled curcumin, I am buying loose turmeric (original powder from India named “haldi”) and adding black pepper to my evening tea. I used turmeric as a paste on a bandage for a cyst behind my left knee and it disappeared after two weeks of treatment.
Next year the cyst returned, but it was my fault as I strained my knee again.
I have been using a supplement from Spring Valley. Usually sold at Walmart. I have noticed a younger look as well as controlling my joint pain and back issues. I didn’t read anything or was told about it. I saw the word ‘turmeric’ on the bottle one day and decided to try it. I’m glad I did. The only issue is that I picked up the 500 mg with ginger powder and 95% curcumin. So, I take two. The only thing missing is this Bioprine ingredient. Is it totally necessary?
Hi, Guy. BioPerine® is a trademarked form of black pepper extract. It’s beneficial to have in turmeric and other supplements because it increases absorption.
I have been diagnosed with vasculitis. Can I take turmeric?
Hi, Jane. We always recommend consulting with your doctor before taking any new health supplements, especially if you have a condition.
Where can I purchase Curcumin?
Hi Gerald, you can purchase them directly on the manufacturer’s website or online marketplaces like Amazon.com.
What is the shelf life of loose turmeric powder? Can anyone help me on that?
I started taking Curcumin about a week ago. The pain has not decreased that much, but I do not have any more leg cramps. That’s a huge improvement. Today, I woke up with serious muscle pain, affecting even my buttocks to the point I can hardly walk. My hand and feet are also in extreme pain. I’m on a blood thinner and had my INR checked today. It is 1.5, which is not good. It should be between 2.5 and 3. My numbers are always very regular, so I’m not sure why it thickened so much. If anything, I thought it would thin it. Crazy stuff. Any insight?
Hi Alice, sorry to hear about your situation. From what I’ve read, turmeric and blood thinners shouldn’t be taken together. It’s best you bring this to the attention of your doctor.
I have enjoyed reading everyone’s comments on turmeric, I have been on turmeric curcumin for several months and have felt much better. I suffer from sciatic nerve problems.
My doctor requested I get a blood test a couple of weeks ago. The results were good, except he found the blood with a high count of iron. I do not take B 12 or any iron that I know of, now I am wondering if some of my other supplements are causing this.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Waiting to hear if anyone following this site.
Hi Fannie,
If you are of Scottish, Irish, Northern or Eastern European decent, middle aged and exhibiting signs of high iron in the blood , you should have your doctor check you for hereditary hemechromatosis. It’s a genetic disorder that causes iron overload that, left unchecked, can lead to severe organ damage, cirrhosis, and cancer. The good news is, if you have this hereditary disease, one study found, turmeric is a natural chelater of excess iron (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4521784/). This could definitely explain why you’ve been feeling better since taking the turmeric. It’s not causing the iron overload but is likely helping your body get rid of some of the excess iron. Best of health to you!
I’m afraid to get excited about something that might help my severe chronic pain and depression that make my quality of life close to non-existent in many ways!
I’ve tried almost everything you can think of. But nothing really worked. But this has helped a ton of people! Talk about a miracle if it helps me feel better! I’m getting some today! Because I really want to enjoy my life again!
I was having lumbar stenosis, cervical stenosis, and a destroyed left hip all at the same time. I was having suicidal levels of pain. Turmeric, bromelain, and yucca SAVED MY LIFE. Together they really cut down my inflammation and made it so I could sleep again. Turmeric’s effects increase with the addition of ginger and black pepper.
I am taking Eliquis blood thinner. Can I take turmeric curcumin?
Blood thinners and turmeric should not be taken together.
I’ve been using PuraThrive Turmeric for almost two years now and has reduced back pain considerably. My dad age 94 would like to start taking it. But he heard that it thins the blood. He is taking baby aspirin daily as a blood thinner so is concerned that might thin it too much?
From what I know, turmeric should be avoided if on blood thinners. I would speak with a doctor about this.
I very much enjoyed reading all of the comments about Turmeric. I had already bought a bottle for my painful knees, but after taking one capsule I realized it doesn’t have Bioperine written on the bottle as one of the ingredients. I can’t afford to buy another bottle right now so I will take this bottle first and then get another when I finish! Hope it works, I’ve tried everything! By the way, I am a fairly active 80-year-old, and I surely want to keep going! Thanks again for the great information.
That’s great—I hope it works for you!
I’ve read that you can just swallow a two whole black peppercorns with the Turmeric pills. Google it.
You can use black pepper around the time you take your supplement, or just make sure you use pepper regularly.
Bioperine is the active ingredient of pepper!
Hi, Mary bioperine is most likely on your table—it’s black pepper. It helps with absorption.
I take a 325 mg aspirin a day for my heart. Can l take turmeric with it?
Hi Leona, I recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before taking turmeric or any new health supplements.
I am having a biopsy, and the doctor took me off my Motrin and 81-milligram saprin. I never ask if I should go off the turmeric and magnesium I am taking. Should I stop them until the biopsy is done?
Hi Ada, that’s definitely something your doctor should know!
I purchase Trader Joe’s brand of Ginger Turmeric Tea. I boil 2qt of water, add 4 tea bags, let steep in frig on average 4 days. Drink hot or cold w/agave. Helps w/aches, pains, digestion, sinus, vomiting, diarrhea. Great from head to toe.
Thanks for sharing, Carla.
Hi. Turmeric is wonderful. My Neurologist from Vanderbilt recommended for it me. It takes the pain away. Is there any weight gain from taking turmeric?
Glad to hear turmeric has been effective for you. I haven’t seen any studies that indicate it’s associated with weight gain.
When I first started turmeric, I lost 24 pounds in two months and was doing nothing different except taking it.
Hello Dawn,
Thank you for the valuable insights into these different brands. I am a 54 year old with RA for many years due to hyperthyroid issues and many “broken” bones from a well-lived life of adventures. I have been on turmeric curcumin for more than 5 yrs now. I have only good things to say about it. Without it, I cripple quickly. No side effects , not even on an empty stomach. Not an absolute on pain loss but certainly very reduced pain. Decreased swelling of joints and extra energy, also. I was able to lose all the costly pharma pills given by doctors for my condition. It also has a blood thinning factor that should not be combined with other blood thinners.
Thanks for sharing Susie. I am on aspirin and cannot take any anti-inflammatory meds. Was excited to hear about turmeric for pain. Now I guess I better check with my doctor before taking since you said it should not be taken if on blood thinners.
Fantastic – glad to hear you’re getting results with turmeric!
Hi Andy, we reviewed turmeric supplements in pill form because that’s the more common method of taking turmeric. Turmeric powder is effective as well though.
There are links to each manufacturer’s website where you can buy them.
The ingredients sound high quality, Carlos, but we haven’t had a chance to test that particular product.
Great, thanks for sharing!
I been taking turmeric cur cumin with bioperine 1950 mg from Natures
Is thus something I should keep taking
It looks like a good product but you can find our top rated turmeric supplement reviews here: https://usaconsumerreport.com/index.php/nutrition/turmeric-reviews/
My favorite is Curamed and uses a different source of absorption ….. helps me feel so much better…but I don’t use for pain…..some say Curamin is the one they have that is better for pain…….could you give me some insight on these in that they use this different method instead of Bioperine ….Thank You
Glad to hear you’ve found something that works for you! Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric which has such powerful health benefits. Bioperine is derived from pepper and helps with the absorption of curcumin, making it more effective. Hope that helps.
I am age 57. I have severe OA, and trying to maintain a full-time job and finish graduate school is extremely challenging. There are many times that the pain is so unbearable; however, I will continue to persevere to reach my goal. I’ve been adding tumeric to my food; yet, the results haven’t been overwhelming. Thank you for your diligent research to seek out the truth: sparing consumers the headache of wasting time, money, and energy in trying to sort through the plethora of bogus supplements out there.
Sorry to hear you haven’t seen the results you were seeking, Cyndi. I would try sticking with it initially because sometimes it takes a while for our bodies to adjust. Everyone’s bodies react differently to things too. Good luck, and don’t put off going to your doctor if you’re in real pain!
I also have extreme pain; hips, back and behind the thighs, I am trying Turmeric (500mg). I did not know about Piperine when I bought the turmeric today at Walgreens.
Pilgrims pride..best turmeric .1000 mg and will not bankrupt you!
Thanks for your input, Bill!
Dawn – well written n informative – maybe you can guide me – old guy needs a multi
vitamin that works -not something pushed by doctors and such – you r an expert – any ideas
Hi Kenny, our most highly rated multivitamin was Dr. Tobias Vitality. You can find out more about our top picks for multivitamins here: https://usaconsumerreport.com/index.php/nutrition/multivitamin-reviews/
I have purchased Science Natural Supplement Turmeric w/BioPerine Have you heard of this product? This is the supplement facts as listed on the bottle: Turmeric (Curcuma Longa)(root) 1200 mg* Turmeric 95% Curcuminoids100 mg*BioPerine 10 mg*, * Daily Value(DV) not established. I don’t know what that means. Do you have any info on this product? I have been taking this for 10 days, with no real results yet.
Hi, Juan. Sometimes you just have to give it some time to see if a supplement is effective for you. You can find most of our turmeric supplement reviews here: https://usaconsumerreport.com/index.php/nutrition/turmeric-reviews/
I’ve been taking the liquid form called Qunol, that I bought at Costco. It says on the bottle that it contains Curcumin C3 Turmeric 95% Curcuminoids 1000 mg, Bioperine 50:1. Does the liquid absorb as well as the pill form?
From what I gather, turmeric supplementation can be effective in liquid form as well.
How do you rate Puritan’s Pride Turmeric Curcumin with 50mg of Turmeric extract standardized to contain 95%curcuminoides. I take 2 each day.
Hi, LeRoy. We reviewed that turmeric supplement here: https://usaconsumerreport.com/index.php/nutrition/other-reviewed-brands/puritans-pride-turmeric-curcumin/
Do you have any information on the Puritan Pride brand of Turmeric?
We reviewed it here: https://usaconsumerreport.com/index.php/nutrition/other-reviewed-brands/puritans-pride-turmeric-curcumin/
I have knee pain , I would like to try turmeric.
I have been using Commercial Grade Turmeric Powder in cooking with some Black Pepper to help its absorption since 2003. It really works. It takes getting used to on some foods, but I think it’s best on chicken. I even put it on the occasional slice of pizza.
Incorporating turmeric into meals has been done for hundreds of years and is a great way to get its health benefits. Thanks for sharing.
I am taking ‘Pure Nature’ Turmeric curcumin with bioprene in vegetable capsules. Each capsule contains 650mg Turmeric and 5mg Bioprene. Recommended dose is 2 capsules per serving. So far, I have taken one capsule a day and my dependence on Advil (Ibuprofen) is gone. Recovery is not complete and after reading this review, I will go to full dose of two capsules a day. The company claims that it is FDA registered GMP facility in Van Nuys CA 91406.
Great to hear you found a turmeric supplement that’s working for you.
What about powder form? That’s what I use.
Thanks so much!
Hey Rhonda, turmeric powder is great too 🙂
Have not used this product but have thought about it – my doc is a believer in eating right and not taking supplements, nonetheless, many people rave about the effects. So, ran into a liquid turmeric at Costco, saying this is the only liquid one – can’t remember the brand name but if it is the only liquid one out there, well. Do you have any info on the liquid?
Turmeric in liquid form can be an effective method of ingestion as well.
I TAKE 3/4 IN, IN LENGTH, OF THE RAW TUMERIC ROOT EACH MORNING…. REALLY HELPS W/ AURTHRITIC KNEE INFLIMIATION….. I GET IT FROM THE LOCAL VEGGIE MARKET , CLEAN IT, CUT IT UO & PUT IN A BAGGIE & KEEP IT IN THE FREEZER… POP ONE IN MY MOUTH EVERY AM…..SEEMS TO WORK……
Turmeric is indeed great for dealing with inflammation.
just buy good turmeric from india and add pepper for better absorbtion, no need for expensive sup. caps. I been using it this way for a year everyday.
That’s a great way to do it as well. People turn to supplements in pill form because of the convenience factor.
I ingest three to four teaspoons of organic ground turmeric with one or more teaspoons of black pepper over the course of each day…everyday for a few years now. I never get headaches like I did years ago and I never get sore or stiff legs or knees, and never get back aches, all like I did ten years ago. I am 67-yrs-old, and I’m hoping that I can continue this way without worrying about the curcumin extract or the bioperine. What do you think? After all this time, would not the continual flow of digested turmeric and black pepper take care of me?
I have tested turmeric powder in mice who are genetically given birth to have arthritis. The mice who were fed with turmeric powder in their food did not get any sighns of arthritis but those who were not fed with turmeric did move very slowly and showed signs of arthritis. The Rf factor was tested in each case. This work was conducted at Tomer Laboratories in New Jersey The US patent office granted a patent on the work performed.
Has anyone stopped taking it and felt nervous and anxious? I did not take it this a.m. and have felt this way all afternoon.
If you take original organic turmeric powder with Black pepper powder , you will get more benefit. Black Pepper contains Bioperine.
Add this powder with Milk and honey(if you need taste) and drink daily. Even the chemotherapy patients also get more benefits and if the patient has a strong will power and faith in God would cured all type of Cancer.
Assuaged nutrition brand has all the ingredients Biology has good results will is a little hard to swallow but not bad.
How does the actual root compare to supplementation?
Taking the root is effective.
For the past 2+ years I have taken Turmeric Curcumin made by PlantOrigin. My daughter recommended that I add this to my daily meds & vitamin intake and I feel it has made me feel more energetic.
PlantOrigin Turmeric Curcumin recommends a daily serving of 3 capsules and lists that each serving includes 1050mg of Organi Turmeric (Curcma Langa Root) + 450mg Turmeric 95% Curcuminoids + 15mg of BioPerine.
In the event that you have tested my brand I would sincerely appreciate it if you can share your findings with me.
I get my Turmeric Curcumin through Amazon on an automatic refill and gladly change to a by you recommended brand if my brand is inferior. Thanks
Hi Peter, you really can’t go wrong with any of these products but we found that BlueBiology’s turmeric was the best of the bunch.
what about the spice on the shelves of grocery stores and health food stores?
Turmeric spice is great too and can provide the same health benefits.
Thank you for all the good information. Along with fasting and detoxing, I’m trying turmeric in my diet now to rid inflammation of the lymph glans in my legs, ankles and feet. I hope it works. Also for developing allergies due to weather change.

I just toss turmeric and curcumin spices into my soups, etc. when I can remember to do so. Hope this is effective too.
Thanks for the buyers beware! consumers are often blind sided, I now know what to look for.
Has anyone used BioSchwartz? How do you compare tumeric root with extracts? How many mg of curcumin in an ounce of fresh root?
Fresh is better. That’s what I use. I put a small piece in my morning tea.
I have been using this med for over a month now or more, let me tell you, I have not felt this great in years. I have bought more. Keep it coming world and stay healthy…
I’m happy to hear you’re getting good results, Susan.
Why are all the recommended brand more expensive by far?
Hi Jay, with supplements, you usually get what you pay for in terms of price. High-quality ingredients cost these companies money.
Just curious about the benefits of ingesting the turmeric root by adding it to foods. I have been doing this daily for the last month but don’t exactly know if ingesting it this way is beneficial in the same way a pill might be. I just microplane the root into my salads, spaghetti sauce, homemade pizza, sandwiches, etc. Using my baby finger as a measurement (which is about 2″ long), I microplane anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of a root that size. I am getting very used to the flavor and actually am loving the earthy hotness of it. I also take one Aleve daily for my knees. Maybe I’ll stop that in lieu of the raw Turmeric to see if it can take the place of the Aleve.
Hi Christy, consuming turmeric root can be effective as well. It’s just that supplements have a much higher concentration of the active ingredient, curcumin.
I’m 45, female and 4 years ago fell 16′ to a concrete sidewalk. I now live with 2 perpetual pelvic breaks, hardware to reconstruct my right arm with 3 more surgeries to repair the hardware and advanced osteoarthritis in my neck, not to mention some long term minor brain injury. At times I’ve taken 16 ibuprofen and 9 Advil along with a laundry list of prescribed pain pills and eventually ended up an IV opiate addict….Curamin Extra Strength helped me through the excruciating pain of withdrawal. I now take it daily and don’t even need Ibuprofen!!!! I haven’t felt this good or hopeful in a very long time, I think more clearly and have more energy.
Sorry to hear about your accident, Jennifer. That must have been a painful experience to go through. I’m glad to hear you’re able to get some relief from the pain with turmeric.
I am so thrilled to receive good info on this supplement. I have been taking one that didn’t make a difference.
Thank you!
I started using turmeric about a month ago .. and have gotten results that amazed me. The BioPerine definitely makes a difference in absorption. I’ve been using Tumeric without not really knowing if it was doing anything or not. I have much less pain and stiffness, take no other pain relief during the day, and less over the counter pain meds at night. I recommend anyone with inflammation issues to try this!.
My wife has a bad knee and she would walk funny wherever we went. Now, she takes Turmeric Curcumin and she goes anywhere I go. The inflammation has gone away and her knee works as well as mine does.
My granddaughter told me about organic curcumin with 95% curcuminoids. Powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
Even small amounts of turmeric make me feel sick…nausea, sweating, crashing fatigue. I just can’t use it in any form. Wish I could.
That’s unfortunate, Mary. I would try a different brand before giving up on it first to see if it’s an ingredient other than turmeric that’s causing you to have the reaction.
Turmeric does nothing for arthritis in my hands. Ginger Root makes it go away. Not every supplement does well for everyone, so if Turmeric does not work for you try the other natural anti-inflammatories.
Good point, Steve.
I have high blood pressure and blood sugar is turmeric is good for me?
Hi, Kumarie.
Turmeric is known to lower blood pressure. Research indicates that turmeric may help to stabilize blood sugar levels: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3857752/
As always, be sure to speak with your physician before taking a health supplement like turmeric.
Turmeric curcumin is the only supplement I’ve ever taken that has had an effect on me. It does all the things it says it will. Marked mood improvement, less arthritic pain which leads to more energy.
I have not tried any Turmeric supplements. However, I have been consuming organic turmeric spice daily for 2 weeks now. I have made lots of chickpea and lentil soup with turmeric (and coriander, ginger, cinnamon and chili powder). I also found that scrambled eggs with turmeric, coriander, parsley and onion salt is delicious.
Unfortunately, these “anti-inflammatory” spices have not helped much. My hip hurts so bad at night I need up to 6 naproxen before I can sleep. My feet and my right knee hurt so bad today I can barely walk. I have also not lost any weight even though I have exercised every day, Including 30 minutes of cardio. All I can say for turmeric is that it tastes great in certain recipes.
I would try turmeric in supplement form, as it will contain a far larger dosage of the active ingredient, curcumin.
I have been using turmeric and ground ginger for about ten years. You don’t need much for it to be effective.
Which brand do you use?
I just buy organic turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and heat it with almond milk, coconut oil and some pepper and honey. Or you can make a Golden Paste and store it for some time in your fridge. It’s best to make your own to know what’s in it.
Doroat
Could you please give us the recipe of how much of each item to mix together. I would appreciate it very much.
eckenrodmary9@gmail.com
Please and thank you.
Hi Dorota, I’m just reading your post now. Can you please list the amounts you use to make your drink? I have trouble taking the turmeric capsules. Much appreciated.
Was using Turmeric Curcumin bought from Walgreens/Walmart with no results. Still had my arthritic pain in my hands and hips. Used Ibuprofem like crazy. Now I will try the products you recommended. Thanks so much for the great information. You never know what you are getting when you buy something from a store.
I’ve been taking this supplement for a couple years along with other supplements; it seems to work well and I feel stronger. I’m 85!
You don’t mention the ground turmeric found in grocery stores. I use this and it has kept my knees from hurting!
Better yet, buy fresh turmeric root and eat it raw. Most grocery stores carry it.
I have neuropathy in my toes. Bone on bone arthritis. I walk the treadmill at over 4 mph for a mile without issue. My doctor recommended I begin with turmeric before other options. I am also taking cinnamon to help control blood sugars.
Thank you for doing all the hard tedious work for us. I feel I can now buy any of the top 4 products and know I will be able to assess its potential properly.
You’re welcome Mary!
I had a severe pain in my shoulder joint. My doctor recommended physical therapy I could not find the time despite the pain. He suggested I take turmeric…This is a miracle supplement. I purchased the actual root and just blend it in and drank two turmeric root per day. It was miraculous. No more pain and lots of energy. The only drawback is that it makes my hands yellow. But I just wear gloves. I will try the bluebiology.
I have started this regimen 3 days ago and can hardly believe the improvement in my hands, have had swelling and very painful joints even with meds for 4 yrs, was suggested by friend so gave it a try, had nothing to loose. So far very pleased with results and would recommend to anyone to try
My husband has an old football injury on his wrist and he used to take Excederin. Now, if he takes 4 turmeric every morning, he doesn’t have any trouble. I take turmeric for my aches and pains and headaches too and I am avoiding using NSAIDs. For inflammation & pain, along with turmeric, I take Fish oil, Resveritrol, ginger, & Icarin.
Where would a person buy the #1 turmeric curcumin?
You can buy most of these supplements directly from the brands’ websites. All of them are available on Amazon.
No need to even buy this stuff – just buy organic turmeric at the store and mix with ground black peppercorns and a healthy oil – olive, coconut, etc. Make a paste of this by cooking for 5-10 minutes – cool and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Take 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon a day.
I take 1000 mg of Curcumin daily for my arthritic hands. I used to take two ibuprofen daily, and it dulled my pain somewhat. Curcumin takes away the pain completely. No side effects. I’ve tested its effectiveness by stopping my daily regimen. Within a week, my pain returned.
thats excellent!what brand of cucurmin do you use?
I am so happy to see this! Being aware of the pitfalls of supplements, I have been trying to research turmeric products and have been feeling very discouraged.
You give data! Now I am ready to buy.
Thanks for the information.
I’m on my 2nd bottle from Costco and have recommended to Friends that swear their bald spots are disappearing. I’m 82 and still working. First recommended by one of my Indian doctors.
I have been using curcumin with Bioperine which stopped my back pain completely. Very happy with it. Had been taking Hydrocodon (from Dr. Perscription which took care of pain but caused constipation.)
Got a bottle, made me feel 10 years younger also it’s also starting to grow some hair on my head on the big bald spot, thank you. Dino
For the last 20 years I couldn’t play a round of golf without either Vicodin, Motrin,Thermal-pack or Capzasin on my lower back and both hips due to x-ray verified arthritis. After 3 months taking 1500 mg Turmeric daily, I no longer require any of that stuff! Now…if I could only find something to help my golf swing!
Great to hear, Ronnie!
You can actually make your own! There are recipes everywhere – Google the subject. I have been making my own pills for a few years. Everything is available at Amazon. I have control over sciatica and arthritis – with no unknown ingredients or unwanted side effects that accompany prescribed meds.
I am a Nurse/massage-therapist in Florida, I have 19 clients taking curcumin, with 90% reporting excellent results, especially pain relief. My brother with my help reversed terminal colon cancer in 6 wk, only 4 caps a day… can you say awesome?
I purchase raw organic turmeric root at stores that carry organic health foods. It is expensive per pound, but no more so than supplements overall because you only need a little bit of it on food. It peels and grates like ginger, and has such a subtle taste that you can add it to practically anything. Its bright orange color makes a festive looking garnish on salads, stews, vegetables, and in smoothies.
Hello USA Consumer Report,
I love taking natural products. Turmeric has been working for me for the several years now. I’m 68 years old and try to get in at least 1-3 miles a week of walking. However just getting back into the groove after an episode of flu. I take turmeric before I walk.
Turmeric tea is great also.
Thanks
You really don’t need 1000mg, I take only 450mg and it works great for my arthritis.
Does it interact or impede Rx drugs?
Not that I’m aware of, but I would check with your physician if you’re on other meds first.
I just use tumeric and/or cuminin in powders in my cooking. Haven’t tried any capsules.
Thanks for the information. I use turmeric had backache and a friend recommended it. It took away my back pain and stiffness.
The health benefits are astonishing. I use 1 teaspoon per day with 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper and a little salt on cottage cheese to help mask the horrible taste of the turmeric.
I am going to order the # 1 today and let you know the results.
Has anyone experienced bad urine smell and bad breath?
May I say turmeric is a miracle pill for my osteoarthritis! Unbelievable the difference. After one week, I have not even noticed my hip, which was a constant reminder of pain and aging.
Thank you for the reviews. Does the actual powdered spice turmeric have the same benefits, and is it safe to mix in food every day?
Yes, turmeric spice has health benefits as well. It is safe in the amounts that would typically be added to food.
I was on a 3-week holiday trip to India (my country of origin) came back with a packet of pure organically homegrown homemade turmeric powder my cousin sister gave me to be used today cooking which we Indians do every day. Now is that 100% pure or what? Please tell me.
Hi Ratna, natural turmeric powder has health benefits as well, it just doesn’t have as high of a concentration of curcumin, which is the active ingredient in it.
What are the side effects?
There are no known serious side effects.
Using powdered organic turmeric for several months now, 1 tsp daily mixed in my morning coffee. I feel good about it, but does one have to take turmeric forever?
To continue getting turmeric’s health benefits, for the most part yes, but it does have some lasting positive effects.
Been using this for years. I take 1000 mg per day and I have no arthritis pain. I tried lowering dose and stopping altogether to “test” the effectiveness. Each time the pain returned.
I have been using ground turmeric and making my own capsules, it is good but I don’t think its purified. It also helps with weight loss.
Proper diet and exercise are necessary to complete the spectrum. Otherwise, you are a big fat guy taking a multivitamin with your 10 egg omelet.
In Jamaican we called this yellow ginger, while growing up playing soccer we often got sprain or twisted ankle we crush the yellow ginger and wrapped it over the area and it would work just like that so I am not surprised to see it now.
I have been taking turmeric for years for joint pain, and it is a marvel. If one brand does not work for you, try another, as it is an organic product and there really is a difference in how and where it is grown, just like any plant or vegetable.
First time user – I bought a turmeric supplement at Whole Foods but I noticed it only contains 300 mg of turmeric and 3 mg of bioperine. The bottle says to take 2 daily, which means to get 100% I need 3 tablets a day. I’m going to use what I have then go buy Blue Biology. I do find relief from the pain in my hands.
I failed to note any mention of turmeric’s effectiveness in relieving leg/muscle cramps. I have found that turmeric, in the form of mustard,
placed on the tongue, effect almost immediate relief from the most severe cramp. I can only imagine that, with regular use and controlled dosage, it would eliminate leg cramps altogether.
I haven’t had a migraine or sinus headache since I started taking it, very thankful I found it!
I use turmeric to help supplement my diabetes medication and I can’t live without it. It helps my neuropathy incomparably.
Just started this week, had a very traumatic fall July 3rd. I was in a coma for a month, treated for brain bleeding in ICU, was put in a nursing and rehab home for 1 & 1/2 months. Body is very sore, since I was on so many meds, decided to try turmeric, feeling better, no complaints.
I love what Turmeric did for my joints but I wound up getting several nosebleeds and had to stop taking it.
FYI: I use from my kitchen cabinet, 1 teaspoon Tumeric, 1 teaspoon of cumin and 4 tablespoons of pure apple cider vinegar. 1st I used this mixture of ingredients I noticed a change in my mood (positive), my aches & pain disappeared almost immediately… AND, since my recipe works wonders for me, I feel no need to buy these vitamins.
My husband and I both started turmeric 3 days ago. The first morning awoke free of our usual morning stiffness but following our third dose my husband started having loose stools and I had some gastric distress. We both seem fine the next morning. Plan to cut the dose to 500 mg today and see how we progress.
You can buy turmeric root at a whole food store and use it fresh. I have been doing this for a few years.
Tumeric has cured my fibromyalgia, arthritis, and pain… No more Celebrex for me…
Great to hear, Faye.
New to Turmeric as a anti-inflammatory and do really think that it is effective. I just ran out however and went about three days before I could get some more and, not knowing if it is related or not, have had digestive problems since I ran out. Also did not know about the pepper addition for absorption. Really appreciated the reviews – Thank you!
Great reviews on these products. Most people aren’t aware of how widely a supplement’s quality can vary based on its ingredients.
Yes, I have tried fresh turmeric and found that it relieves pain and inflammation.
Is Curamin a good product for pain? Can it be taken long term?
Yes, for some people they do report relief from pain – mostly joint pain. Based on the available evidence, it can be taken long-term safely.
I’ve found it so much easier to just go and buy turmeric from your local spice rack from your grocery store and just use it as much as possible. I add a teaspoon daily to my salad dressings and put it in anything that I cook. With that I feel 100% better.
What is recommended dosage per day for tumeric?
There’s no recommended daily value, but from the research we’ve seen, 500-1,000 mg seems to be an effective and safe dose.
I recently finished 2 spinal injections for upper back pain. The first injection reduced pain by 60%, the 2nd did nothing. The very day I read about curcumin I bought some and took during the evening. The next day the pain had reduced in my back to the point that I thought maybe the injections are working better. But I conclude curcumin significantly reduced my back pain. I take double the recommendation. I will try other brands too since this was my first brand. But I’m very impressed with how it helped me reduce over 15 years of pain.
That’s great to hear, John.
Thank you. I am new at this trying natural new product for extreme inflammation and pain.
You can get turmeric & curcumin at any grocery store in spice section & cook with them. Much cheaper & you know what & how much you are getting. Natural is always better than any chemical made product. I’ve been cooking w/them for a few years & have controlled my arthritis, joint & lower back pain w/o taking any pills.
That’s true; turmeric spice has great health benefits. It just doesn’t have as high of a concentration of curcumin.
How has it been working on your extreme inflammation and pain?
Started this last week and I am AMAZED. I haven’t felt this good in *years*.
I use 100% ground Turmeric with no binders, fillers or artificial coloring by adding a teaspoon to my morning juice. What’s the verdict of use ground versus using the pill form?
What do you think about using standard spice brands of turmeric?
I am asking about good, recognized (top of the line) brands of spices here. Of course it would be impossible to be certain of taking exactly 1,000 mg of the stuff, but for those who enjoy the flavor of turmeric it seems like that would be a method of getting at least some of the benefits.
What do you think?
Also, if you recommend taking the full supplement, what about the possibility of overdosing?
Are there any serious side effects of taking too much turmeric?
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey L Jones
P.S.: I meant this as s direct post to you, not as a reply to another post. Thanks again.
Hi Jeffrey, turmeric spice is not as concentrated as turmeric curcumin supplements but has been shown to have the same health benefits, probably just to a lesser degree. It has been taken for hundreds of years. So far, researchers appear to have not yet found any indication that turmeric is toxic at high doses.
Do you also need to take Black Pepper along with this pill?
That’s great to hear, Kelli.
