Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra Review

After conducting our Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra review, we awarded them our number 2 spot. It covers an acceptable range of digestive enzyme support, and the brand asserts that their products are hypo-allergenic. We felt more than comfortable awarding them the #2 slot, despite the fact that we had some misgivings about some of their ingredient choices.

Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra Review: Are They Effective?

We had a lot to look at when questioning the effectiveness of Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra.

When you’re choosing a digestive enzyme supplement, you have to be sure your digestive enzyme is enteric-coated or it may not make it all the way through your system to your small intestines. They also included tapioca maltodextrin in their additional ingredients, and we do not approve of the use of unnecessary additives. Maltodextrin is a type of sugar, and we suspect it may counteract one or more of the amylase ingredients in the supplement.

One thing that we did like was the vegetarian capsule. We always appreciate when a company avoids using a gelatin capsule. There are too many “what-if” factors in gelatin encapsulation — what if you’re a vegetarian? What if you have a bovine allergy? Etc. So we give this company credit for not using a gelatin capsule.

Is Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra Safe?

Just like with Addzyme, our Editor’s Choice Award for digestive enzymes, Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra should be completely safe for you to take.

One thing that did worry us is one customer review about an allergic reaction. This is especially concerning with a company like Pure Encapsulations that specifically advertises themselves as hypo-allergenic. If you have a suspected allergy to any of the additional ingredients (tapioca maltodextrin, ascorbyl palmitate, cellulose), or if you are unsure about any other reactions you may have with this product, you should consult your physician before trying this product.

As a rule, we recommend speaking with your physician before adding any new supplements to your health routine anyway.

How much will it cost me?

Pure Encapsulations is decently priced for it’s pill-per-bottle count. HOWEVER, keep in mind that it only earned 3 out of 5 on our Units of Activity scale, which means you would need to take more to get the same potency as you would get with a higher rated brand. They also recommend taking them with every meal. Now, you may need some extra digestive support and may take a digestive enzyme with one or two meals a day; but it’s not necessary to take one each and every time you snack. Do a little math and you’ll quickly see that what looks like it could be a 30 day supply turns into a one to two week supply just like that.

Overall, while we feel that Pure Encapsulations is not unreasonably priced, we think that you could be getting better value by going with a higher-rated brand, such as Addzyme.

Summary of Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra

Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra is a solid, middle-ground choice for a digestive enzyme supplement. If you do decide to go this route, it’s important to research their binders and fillers to be sure you’re not allergic to any of those ingredients.
